Preventive Health Guidelines

Each year, CenCal Health develops current Preventive Health Guidelines, which include all recommended tests, screenings, and immunizations for men and women in each age group. These are based on a review of the guidelines and recommendations published annually by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Guidelines Sources

CenCal Health follows strict contractual requirements to adhere to the recommendations of the USPSTF, AAP, and CDC. Below is a description of the sources for the Preventive Health Guidelines for children and adults.

Children

The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) requires that our contracted providers follow the most recent immunization periodicity schedule of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). These schedules are updated regularly and are readily available on the AAP web site.

DHCS contract requires the use of the AAP periodicity schedule of examinations following the Initial Health Assessment. This is in accordance with the standard used to determine frequency of preventive health care visits assessed during medical record reviews.

Adults

DHCS requires that our contracted providers make available a core set of preventive services consistent with the USPSTF’s Guide to Clinical Preventive Services.  The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) makes these recommended services easily available in summary form on their web site and they are updated regularly.
